Academic CVs are their own format

Academic CVs are longer, structured differently from industry resumes, and expected to include publications, grants, teaching, and service. They can run multiple pages — and often do.

These templates prioritise publications, use serif typography by convention, and provide dedicated sections for research interests, teaching experience, invited talks, and professional service. If you are applying for a faculty, post-doctoral, or research position, an academic CV is the expected document — not a shorter industry resume.

1

Publications lead

Research CVs are judged primarily by publication record. Put the list where it will be seen.

2

Length is not a weakness

A 4-page academic CV is normal. A 1-page one raises questions about your output.

3

Cite cleanly

Numbered publication lists are the standard. Use a consistent citation format throughout.
